Contribute.
Become part of TangoWiki.

TangoWiki lives of your contribution. It improves with the forces of many, lives on the ideas of us all. Every even so little contribution is very welcome. So don't be shy.

  BE BRAVE & BOLD

Contribute to your preferred topics. If some content is missing, ask for it or create it yourself. Be brave and bold. Any change can be improved or undone. This is the power of a wiki.

  START NOW

What you can do straightaway:

There are currently 14 users registered in the wiki, working on 1,042 content pages and 2,821 total pages.

Improve.
  Edit any page

You can edit any content page by hitting the tab "Edit". Editeditwithform.png

If the page makes use of a form, you can also edit the content by clicking "Edit with form".

Correct typos, improve the language style, add missing information. Try it out, it's fun!

Overall, 13,810 edits have been made in the wiki.

  Add tasks

For ideas and anything you cannot or don't want to add/change yourself, you can create a new task in the Task list. Use the task form for this.

  Improve the English

A lot of content was added by English non-native speakers, so when you are a native speaker yourself and spot something peculiar in the language, go ahead and correct it. (You could even start with this sentence… ;)

This will help a huge lot in the overall quality of the articles!
  Categorize
  1. Consult the help article: Add categories to article on what is important in categorizing.
  2. See the list of all categories for an overview. Some categories are added automatically through templates.
  3. Start with categorizing pages in the list of uncategorized pages.
  Correct recordings

If you know a lot about recordings (labels, recording dates, sides etc), you can improve the recordings. To get the recordings listed, look on the orchestra and song pages.

Expand.
  Link to performance videos

Many maestros have videos on YouTube of their performances. Use <mediaplayer>YouTube video link</mediaplayer> to add videos to the maestro pair pages.

The media player is loading...

  Add images

On commons.tangowiki.org all the images are stored. If you own the image rights, you can upload and categorize images there.

If you are a photographer, why not give away some photos of locations, venues, festivals?

Create.
  FESTIVALS

Wiki festival.jpg

If you want to add a new festival, use the festival form. Check for existing festivals first. Also view all festivals in 2015 and the World map of festivals.

How to create a festival in 2015:

  1. Create a festival main page with the festival form. Add general data, location, organizers.
  2. Create a (yearly) festival event page on the festival main page with the little form field there. Add dates, maestros, TJs and program.

Help with the festival form:

  Maestros

When you add a festival, you might see some tango teachers missing. You can add them like this:

  • Maestro pair form: Write the maestros (lady first, connect with "y"). If you know of a website, add it.
  • Add information about the maestros and maybe videos and further links.
  • All maestro pairs
  MILONGAS

If needed, consult the help pages for using these forms.

  Create a new article

You might have a look into the list of wanted pages to see what pages are missing. (List of all pages, that have been linked to, but still need to get created.) You can also create a new page simply by entering the desired page name here (case-sensitive!):

If you want to try things in a safe environment (like creating a first article draft), use your personal sandbox on a subpage.
Translate.
  Translation
  • Move over to the translation interface and translate articles in little pieces into your language. Simply choose the pages you'd like to translate, choose the target language (your mother tongue) and start hitting your keyboard.

If you're looking for help, see about translating a page in the user manual.

Screenshot translatethispage.png Whenever you see "Translate this page" at the top of on an article page, you can directly translate this page into your language.
