Template:Recordings by orchestra/doc - TangoWiki

Template:Recordings by orchestra/doc

From Tangowiki

This template can be included into articles. It shows a table of all recordings of a certain orchestra.

Template:Note

Edit the source code to see the template code.

Usage

Use the following code within an article of an orchestra:

{{Recordings by orchestra}}

This will list all recordings stored in the TangoWiki that are assigned to this orchestra with their data.

Full example with optional parameters:

{{Recordings by orchestra
|
Name of the orchestra
|singer=Ángel Vargas
|pianist=Lidio Fasoli
|start=1937-01-01
|end=1937-12-31
}}

Recordings with a different orchestra

If the recordings concern another orchestra as the one in the page name, like in the case of Edgardo Donato (with Donato-Zerrillo), use the following code:

{{Recordings by orchestra|Name of the orchestra}}.

This will show only the recordings of the specified orchestra (using the short form of the orchestra, not the long form).

Recordings with a certain singer

To show only recordings with a certain singer (or only those "Instrumental"), include the value in the query:

|singer=Ángel Vargas

Hence, the full query could look like this (example):

{{Recordings by orchestra|Ángel D'Agostino|singer=Ángel Vargas}}

Recordings of a certain date range

When you only want to show a certain date range of recordings instead of all, you can include the date range in the query:

{{Recordings by orchestra|Name of the orchestra|start=1937-01-01|end=1937-12-31}}.

Include the start date AND the end date for the date range. The query then uses the operators "bigger than >" and "smaller than <" to display only the recordings from this date range.

Records with a certain musician: piano player

At the moment, it is only possible to query for the piano player:

|pianist=Lidio Fasoli

The full query:

{{Recordings by orchestra|Name of the orchestra|pianist=Lidio Fasoli}}.

Example

(In the example are only the first 3 recordings shown!) Code on the page: {{Recordings by orchestra|Edgardo Donato}}

Result: There are 0 recordings. Click expand to view all.

Code on the page: {{Recordings by orchestra|Donato-Zerrillo}}

Result: There are 50 recordings. Click expand to view all.

Template:Record table bodyTemplate:Record table bodyTemplate:Record table bodyTemplate:Record table outro... further results

The query

  • Only the first 300 entries are shown, if there are more than 300 recordings, a link "further results…" is added.
  • The table is collapsed by default and can be expanded on click.

The query asks for the following data:

  • Title
  • Singer
  • Record date
  • Genre
  • Label
  • Disco No
  • Matrix prefix
  • Matrix No
  • Side (A, B)
  • Disc type (Shellac, Vinyl)

The table will NOT (yet) show the following recording data:

  • Orchestra
  • Alternative title
  • Title as it appears on shellac
  • Key word
  • Source of verification
  • Comments
  • Image
  • TangoTunes SKU, tango.info TINT
  • Sound snippet (is very Flash Player extensive in large lists!)

Best practices

Sometimes it can be useful to test the simple query against subqueries with date ranges and musician options, to see if the number of recordings is the same. This way, recordings with missing information can be detected.

Example: On the page Juan D'Arienzo, the recordings are divided and it is queried for certain piano players and date ranges. The sum of all shown recordings should always equal the general sum of existing D'Arienzo recordings in the wiki, which can be shown with {{Recordings by orchestra|Juan D'Arienzo}}, for testing purposes on one's own sandbox.

If you need to specify the query further, you shouldn't use this template, instead create a distinct query.

A special trick: If you want to show all singers but one, write an exclamation mark before the singer to choose all singers but this one: {{Recordings by orchestra|Ángel D'Agostino|singer=!Ángel Vargas}}. This will show a list of all recordings by Ángel D'Agostino and all singers except Ángel Vargas.

Templates

This template uses 3 subtemplates for the table (different to song recordings!):
