User manual

TangoWiki has an included task list. The task list is for all bugs, errors, improvement to-do's, ideas and all work to do in the wiki.

You can see all tasks at TangoWiki:Tasks. A new task is added with the Form:Task.

Viewing open tasks

Tasks can be viewed on several places:

Add a new task

With the task form it is easy to add a new task to the task list. Fill in the form fields and save the task.

Details about the form fields

  • Title: Needless to say: Write a significant, short title. Don't use a title that's already existing.
  • Short description of task (display): This short description is used for overview task displays, it gives a bit more information than the title, but no information overload for overviews. Write in short, precise sentences with keywords.
  • Further information: Here is the detail. Full descriptions, links, hints, things that have been done already. Write for others' understanding.
  • Users working on this task: Add yourself here, if you are working on the task or would like to work on the task. You make yourself responsible for the task. This task will show up on your userpage, when you have the Template:My tasks included there. If you'd like somebody else to have a look at this task, add them here and write them a note.
  • Type of task:
    • Bug: An error in the software, the programming, the layout, the display etc. It not necessarily has to do with the content (see more on "Bug" on Wikipedia).
    • Programming: Technical improvements, enhancements, functional extension of the wiki, elaborate Wikitext etc.
    • Tedious task: Little tasks, that are easy to to, but due to their quantity of repetition tend to be rather tedious. Example: Delete a certain category tag manually in pages of an obsolete category.
    • Writing: Missing text parts, missing articles, rewriting of texts, splitting or joining of texts, style improvements...
    • Organisation:
    • Translation: All tasks related to translations.
  • Difficulty/requirements: Choose a basic requirement for users to fulfill this task.
    • User – easy:
    • User – special Tango knowledge:
    • User – special technical wiki skills
    • Admin: Tasks for administrators, WikiSysops.
  • Start date: The start date will logically be the present day or some date in the future, if needed.
  • End date: Choose an end or due date if there is a known due date.
  • Priority: Default is "normal" priority. Choose "high" priority, when the task is time sensitive (and best choose "Admin" for difficulty), choose "low" priority for tasks that are rather nerdy than useful. ;-)
  • Status:
    • idea:
    • open
    • in process
    • on hold: Kept on hold for a later date. (Best include the new start date!)
    • done: A "done" task has been positively fulfilled.
    • closed: A closed task could not been fulfilled, has been taken over by another task or has been found obsolete. It is "not done", but still not open any more.
    • archived: Do NOT archive tasks yourself, this should be done by admins. Only "done" and "closed" tasks will ever be archived.
  • Solution: When the task is finished, add a quick summary of what has been achieved, where the solution is to be found (link).
  • Free text: Here you can add your comments, long texts, ideas, suggestions etc that lead to a solution. If you are not the creator of the task, you're best of to add your contribution here (or on the talk page).

Update the task list

Once you added yourself to a task, make sure to keep it updated. Update the information, the status, the dates and the solution. If you got assigned to a task and do not want to further work on it, do write a comment in the free text or the talk page and de-assign yourself from the task.
