What makes a wiki a wiki?

A wiki looks like a website at first glance, but a bit different at the second: Where is the navigation? What's that about the "Edit" button?

A wiki has certain features that distinguishes it from a common website:

Almost every wiki page has a "reading mode" and an "editing mode". Any user registered with their email address can edit any page. Literally, ANY page.[1]

This simply means: clicking the "Edit" button will bring you to an edit box, where you can change text, content and layout of the page. Save the page, done.

Every edit in the wiki is stored in the version history of the according page. Al
